Magnificent ! haven't read anything excited me so much like this one for so long! When i read good books it's like they can be tasted , go directly to my mind and settle there . I'm haunted by the 'book thief' :) .
Reminded me of "The Diary of A young girl " a bit , but much better . At the beginning it says " It’s just a small story really, about among other things: a girl, some words, an accordionist, some fanatical Germans, a Jewish fist-fighter, and quite a lot of thievery..." True, it might be a small story but it tells great deal of things . Here you can see how strong words can be , how people crave for love and happiness even if outside world's turning into unbearable .
What i liked most was Liesel's (main character, a girl , also book thief) passion for reading , it even makes her steal books from Mayor's library . Also how writer demonstrated his disapproving opinion about Hitler , Nazi Germany ,army and War .it's written like narrator of the story is 'Death "
there're more than 20 highlighted parts :
- The only thing worse than a boy who hates you , A boy who loves you .
- 'With a smile like this' Hans said ' You don't need eyes '
- A painted book
A handful of pencils
A mindful of thoughts, like a simple puzzle ,he put them together .
- " They say that war is death's best friend , but i must offer you a different point of view on that one . To me , war is like the new boss who expects the impossible . He stands over your shoulder repeating one thing 'Get it done , Get it done ' . So you work harder . You get the job done . The boss , however, does not thank you . He asks for more "
